Oh!....COOL!

That's Kayleigh's new favorite phrase..."OH!!!  COOL!!!!!!"  She's such a little entertainer lately.  She has a good pouty face and enjoys making people laugh!  She's such a good little girl!!  I think we were incredibly spoiled having her as our first baby!  Speaking of...baby boy is to arrive any day now!  Can't wait to meet him!  We (Steve and I) are hoping for the same...a very easy going, smart little guy!  Post more soon...hopefully I'll get going on posting pictures too!

New Kayleigh-ism's?!?

So...we are definitely in the "Kayleigh do it" stage.  She wants to do everything...with little help from mommy or daddy.  Plus, she likes "Kayleigh's turn" as well.  If we are doing something and she wants to try it, we usually here that coming out of her mouth repeatedly.  She is getting very active in playing with her dolls (getting ready for baby brother!?!). She loves her two year old room at school..SOOO much better than being one of the oldest in her toddler room.  She was so bored!

She likes to play "Where did it go?!" by hiding something behind her back.  She played magician the other day and put one crayon behind her back, then another, then pulled one hand out with nothing in it!  The next hand had two crayons in it!  She thought she was pretty smart stuff there!  :)  We also have been playing with Play-Doh a lot, making birthday cakes and blowing out the candle!  She even held it up to mommy's tummy for baby brother to blow out the candle...from my belly button!  She is very good at opening and closing doors.  She understands to turn and push...without ever being told.  So we have to make sure we are near to know what she's going to get into.  However, the daycare teachers do not believe Steve when he tells them until Kayleigh becomes the escape artist and leaves!  Very quietly, mind you!

We are totally obsessed with moon and stars.  We love them, draw them, look for them, and eenbows (rainbows). Kayleigh gets very upset if she can't find them or see them. We are also obsessed with Curious George and Elmo.  We are getting more toward Curious George being the more popular now.  Which I'm okay with that since she's going to be a monkey for Halloween!

The one thing that gets kind of annoying is that she is waking up every other night or so around 3 am perfectly awake.  She's been going to bed later too.  So...why!?!?  Her 8 teeth that have been coming in over the last 6 months are finally all thru the gums, the last 4 are still coming down, but are thru the gums, so not sure they hurt as bad.  We just can't figure it out.  I think she's trying to get us prepared for baby boy to get here, but still...she needs more sleep than 6 hours!  UGH!

Speaking of baby boy...we have another ultrasound on the 26th to determine his size.  Over the last month I have been measuring 3 weeks early.  So the doctors are worried about size...nothing else.  Being it's a second baby and a boy that doesn't make it sound like I have too much for me on the size of the baby.  Hopefully we aren't talking a Guinness Record here...doesn't feel like it, but still...will be nice to know what I'm in for.  Due date is technically the 26th of November...we'll see!

Kayleigh...oh how you've grown!

Today, well...over the last few weeks...I have noticed how much Kayleigh has blossomed with her vocabulary.  She recently moved up to the two year old room...teachers and us as the parents requested it.  She was getting so bored in the one year old room.  She needed more interaction that she was getting there.  About 50% of the kids weren't even walking in the toddler room.  She started acting out with biting and hitting, so we figured...time for a change.  Plus, November is going to bring enough transition as it is with a new brother at home.  SO...she's now fully up in the two year old room.

Some not so great stuff going on there, but we knew there were changes in store.  Their main objective in this room is INDEPENDENCE...however, we believe there needs to be boundaries as well!  First off, Kayleigh has come home in different outfits (sometimes two different outfits in the dirty bags) because she has soaked herself to the bone playing in the sinks...and possibly toilets...in their bathroom.  SEE...BOUNDARIES!!!!!!!  We've been bringing about a cup of sand home a day from the playground...because the kids should know how to take their shoes off, dump the sand out, put their shoes back on, and then come back in the classroom.  AND...her face raw from rubbing her runny nose across both cheeks...enough that her nose is cracked from being chapped...because they should know how to wipe their own noses.  Really...two year olds need to be TAUGHT how to do these things!!!  Enough gripping!

The good stuff..."My turn!"  "Kayleigh's turn" "Let me try" "I'm a big girl"  Plus she's getting her colors down and calls the animals by their names instead of their noises!  ALL the words and phrases and complete sentences and thoughts coming out of my babies mouth!!!  She's getting so big!  She amazes us EVERY DAY!!!!!!!!!!  I love her so much!  We love her so much!  She's been a very helpful little girl in the infant room with Ms. Tammy.  She helps rock, get bottles, show the babies how to play with certain toys.  Oh how I hope she does this with the little guy :)  I'm sure she will...makes this mama's heart melt!

PS...still no binkie since the last time I posted!!!  I think we eliminated it!

PSS...still working on potty training...sometimes, sometimes not...even at daycare.  Someday!

Trying to eliminate the Binkie!

We've been slowly trying to eliminate/reduce the use of the Binkie...affectionately called "Mine" in our house!  She's become quite attached and uses it as a comfort item. As a child thumb-sucker, I'm hoping this will be easier than I remember quitting my habit.  It's now been 36 hours+ of not having our Mine!!!  She's only asked for it a few times, but...apparently unable to find it (hehehe...hidden well!). HOWEVER...NO NAP TODAY!!!!  Is this our punishment?!?!  We'll see how this goes.  Wish us luck.  And wish us well with baby boy...because he'll most likely have a Binkie at times.  I'm hoping we'll be able to break the habit sooner than we did with Kayleigh!

What melts my heart...

I absolutely love hearing my little girl (without prompting) say...I love you!  Please!  Thank You!  Really...a 22 month old does a better job of this than some adults!

She is so in love with her little brother too!  She says, "Hi!" and "Love you" as she smacks my tummy and or kisses it!  I so hope she loves him this much when he's out in the real world!

Big Girl Bed!

So we decided...kinda of out of the blue...to put Kayleigh in her big girl bed :)  We've had the bed up for quite awhile and have really only used it as a changing station.  But with Baby Boy Peterson making an appearance in 3 months or so, we figured why not try and transition her now.

Kayleigh took her nap in it yesterday without any problems at all!  Plus she slept in it last night...with a few bad dreams (maybe) she was up about 2-3 times.  Not sure what is going on, different area of the room, different noises and lights, who knows.  Hopefully in the end it will work out for the best and she'll love the independence :)  She (knock on wood) has ever tried climbing out of her crib and/or her toddler bed as of yet, so no worries for this mama at this time.  But...our baby girl is getting to be such a Big Girl!  Oh how they change :)  We love you, Kayleigh!

Potty Training...sort of!

Kayleigh has taken an interest in potty training.  We aren't pushing too hard, but if she finds the need and desire, we let her!  She's poopied in the potty twice now.  But this morning...she ran in and pee-peed!!!  She was so proud of herself!  We are too...21 months old!!!  Way to go, Monkey!!!

Been WAY too long!!!!!

So...what's new with us.  Well...where to start.  I'm working on my intership for my Master's in Healthcare Administration (besides that class...two more this fall and I'M DONE!)  We've been dealing with flooding in our basement...completely random...our floater to the sump pump got stuck to the bottom so the sump pump didn't work correctly during a 3 in over night rain.  So we had the insurance adjuster come and we compensated.  Now Steve's working on getting the carpet pulled up (luckily that is mainly what we lost!).  Kayleigh and I aren't able to help...mainly because I am pregnant again!  Due in November and we'll know what we are having in a couple of weeks.

Kayleigh is growing like a weed and learning new things every day.  She's definately going thru some "Terrible Two's" action, but oh well!  She had tubes put in the end of April and we've not had to deal with an ear infection since!

Well...best to be going.  I'll try to be more of a blogger!

Cleaner

Kayleigh is our little cleaner!  She loves to tear apart paper towels and walk around the room wiping up imaginary spills around the kitchen.  She also loves pushing the vacuums around the house.  She also is thrilled by doing dishes including loading and unloading the dishwasher.  Why?  Not sure...Steve and I haven't had the time nor the energy to have the cleanest of houses.  Oh well...we enjoy watching her "clean" and try to do a bit with her :)  So...now I need to ask...when should we start doing chores and allowances?  Hmm...

Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes :)

Kayleigh has been showing off her stuff lately :)  We've been practicing "where's..."  We are getting pretty good with the following: hair, eyes, nose, ears, mouth, tongue, teeth.  But the best one of all...belly button!!!  She gets a kick out of that one.  She loves finding everyone else's too :)  So...needless to say, please hear my apologies now if my daughter decides to look for YOUR belly button!  :)

Where did time go?  I miss my little baby!  I love my little girl just the same, but where did the time go?  I love how you make daddy and I laugh.  You are such a goofy girl and I wouldn't change anything for the world!  I love how you study things, how you enjoy everything, how you are you!  I love who you are turning into!  I just wish I could remember it all!  I love you, Kayleigh!

Subtitles

I would love to invent some sort of "remote" to be able to obtain subtitles to what my toddler is rambling!  She knows what she's saying...but mom and dad are clueless!

Ideas!?!?!

Anyone have any good ideas on being creative with a 14 month old?  I need some new things to do to entertain, teach, occupy my little one's time.  I have been working 4-10 hour days (that may change) and with that being said, I'd like to educate my little one while I'm home.  However, keeping that active little one engaged is the problem.  We've purchased, be given, etc, every toy you could think of, have tons of books, we have crayons and coloring books, we have (and I absolutely love) the AquaDoodle Pad.  But I need some new and fresh ideas to work with Kayleigh.  Please...anything would be great (and nothing is dumb!!!)!!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance!!

Goofy Girl!!!

So, Kayleigh has been in a chipper mood.  I love it when she's happy (which is most of the time).  But it's so much fun watching her dance to music.  Finding anything and everything in the house that plays music, just so she can dance.  And when she dances...SHE DANCES!!!  Sometimes with arms in the air, sometimes spinning, and definately squatting.  She's funny!  I LOVE IT!!!

Lately, we have been "chasing" each other through the house.  She loves giggling when we get close.  Always with the taunts of "I'm going to get you!!!" Which usually is followed with a high pitch squeal!

And...everything thing that falls will be followed with an "UH OH!!!!!!"  Even if it is on purpose.  Today, while and Grandma Mary and Grandpa Karl's we were on an "UH OH!!!!!" kick...with probably 25 "UH OH!!!!!!!!"'s in a row!!  Many of those UH OH's were for no reason at all...she just wanted to say it :)

The last few weeks or so she has been trying to get friendly with the cats.  Our cat's mind you are tempermental.  So, we've been trying to teach nice pets...instead of grabs or smacks...since the cats aren't so sure of Kayleigh anyway.  However, the last few weeks we've been experiencing hugs for the cats.  It's quite cute and the cats tolerate it!  SO...go for it Kayleigh, hug away!!!!  And at Grandma Mary and Grandpa Karl's she tried to "ride" the big fat cat...too funny!!!

And the most exciting and fun thing she's been doing...Hugs and Kisses.  We can ask for a hug or a kiss and she's more than willing to do it!  I'm sure I'm probably going to wear out my Hugs and Kisses, and she'll get annoyed with me asking all the time, but I do enjoy when she runs through the room and jumps into my arms to give me a big hug :)

Oh Kayleigh, we love you so much!!!!

Teething

So, we went to pick up Kayleigh from daycare today and she is in total "drama queen" mode!  Both teachers comment..."Yea, she's been a little "emotional" all day.  We think she's teething."  Kayleigh looks up and automatically shoves her thumb to the back gums.  Mind you, she's not a thumb sucker, so that's not what she was doing.  We grabbed her blankie and binkie and she was perfect!  Poor baby!!!

Not that I want to jinx our house over the next few days, weeks, months...but Kayleigh's a pretty good teether...4 in less than a week for her first ones.  So...please, please, please...let this go as easily as the first!

So...anyone have good home remedies, tricks or stories of their little ones teething!?!

Day ONE on the blog

Hey everyone!!!  I've been reading multiple posts over the last year or so, but now decided to try one out for our family.  I guess I should introduce myself.  I'm Megan.  I'm Kayleigh's mama!  Steve (Kayleigh's dada, and my super hubby) and I will try and keep up on the going's on of our toddler's comings and goings :) Thanks for stopping by :)
